An Umbreon's Story

Nightmare at BlazingRock

The Absol was walking fast. He need to tell his 'Master' about the news of the Umbreon. Suddenly, one of his Liepard guards jumped out of the foilage and hurried his way once she saw him. "What?!" The Absol demanded. The sun was out, and it was beginning to irritate the disaster Pokemon.
"I have bad news." She replied hesitantly. The Liepard shifted on her feet, unsure of how to put the message without angering her boss.
"I'm waiting." The Absol growled to her. His impatience was growing by the second.
"The Umbreon has left the forest."
The Absol almost wanted to laugh. Leave? ShadowShine Woods? Someone was bound to notice. And no one ever tried, to afraid of what the Guardians would do if they did trespass into other territories. "Do you expect me to believe this?"
"It's true...." The Liepard said in a soft voice. "We had our guards search for him at sun high, but they found his scent leading to the border.
"By himself? Why?" The Absol thought aloud. This was most exceedingly rare for a Pokemon to trespass through other territories. He hoped that they had made a mistake but that was highly unlikely. He already was in a bad mood. And now this- to add to his troubles. Now he'd have to tell-
He was interrupted from his rant inside his mind when then Liepard replied, "Yes, sir. We followed his scent but it's faint. But it's directly towards the border."
The Absol shook his head in disgust. He growled and whipped away from the cat-like Pokemon, pondering his thoughts before he answered in a harsh tone, "Alright. Go back and get the guards to follow his trail as best as they can. Pass into other territories to keep his scent, I don't care!" He turned away again and started pacing.
The Liepard darted off, not wanted to upset the Pokemon farther. He sighed, and was just about to return, when he spotted a female Umbreon walking by, healing herself with Moonlight as she passed. The disaster Pokemon could smell the scent of blood, as well as see some rough bruises she had on her. "You!" He called out to her.
She was startled by his yelling, but she walked over, an angry expression plastered on her face. "What, kid?" She growled, even though the Absol was significantly older than her. "Listen, I'm not in the mood." she spat blood on the ground and grunted.
"You don't know who I am?" He asked, clearly surprised.
"Why should I?" she demanded. "I don't care who you are unle-"
"I'm, Lord Nightmare." the dark type stated harshly. He snarled at her and she flinched, bewildered that he was standing in front of her
    "L-Lord N-Nightmare?" She stammered. "I- I uhh...didn't-"
Nightmare glared at her, stopping her words. "What's your name?"
    "Z."
Nightmare grunted, inspecting every inch of the female. She had a small scar above her eye. He knew she was tough, by all the scars and muscle she had. "How'd you get those wounds?" He asked curiosly, getting momentarily sidetracked. A breeze ruffled his snowy white fur on the front of his chest.
Z grunted, but a smirk soon appeared on her face. "Hmph. It was a golden eyed Umbreon. Ya, see there was this Eevee and he was protecting her." She rolled her eyes at the though. "I didn't want to hurt her, only wanted to scare her off, ya know, kid?" Even though she was talking to ShadowShine's Guardian, her manners didn't increase the slightest. "She wasn't from here. She had the Blazing Rock Ruins scent all over her." She scowled and Nightmare listened intently. The golden eyed Umbreon....
"Anyway," The moonlight Pokemon continued, "We had a battle and that kid ended up beating me." Her smirk was a mixture of anger and cockiness. "But I'll find him. He better be prepared. Mr. Gold Eyes and Silver Band 's gonna pay. I bet he left with that Eevee though."
Nightmare could not believe his luck! Running into a Pokemon that had finally found the Umbreon with the golden eyes. He snickered, mostly to himself, before directing his eyes towards Z. "You want revenge?" He asked, taking a step closer.
Z narrowed her eyes of scarlet, making the slivers look like serpents. "Maybe. What you got an offer?"
Nightmare nodded. "Indeed. I say we can both get revenge on the Umbreon, as long as you come with me to BlazingRock Ruins."
"What are we gonna do there, kid?" She asked.
Lord Nightmare's eyws gleamed with a pleasure. A hateful pleasure. If that's even possible...."Because we need to find out who that Eevee was. If we find out where she's going we can track Golden Eyes down."
Z grunted. "Sure. I just to have a rematch. But only with him. No one get's hurt, 'ait?"
Nightmare nodded. "Then off to BlazingRock we go...."

      * * * * * *

Aris sighed in defeat. "Mom, it's no use. We can't find her." The Flareon said. They had been searching for 3 days now and no sign of Akemi. Their younger sister had left their home in BlazingRock in an outrage, claiming that no one supported her. Akemi was always a little more independent, a little more calmer and happier than the others. She didn't get discouraged easily and if she believed in something, she would do whatever she needed to do it. Even run away from home.
The Pokemon sighed and turned toward his family, worriedness all plastered on their faces. Finally, their oldest sister spoke up. "Well she couldn't have gotten far. She hasn't even evolved yet."
Their mom, a tall female named, Brimstone, smiled at her. "Good thinking. I like your attitude Volcara." The old female Flareon grinned smugly at her mom's approval.
Aris rolled his eyes. His middle sister, Maybrem, sighed and flicked her fluffy vanilla tail in annoyance  "We've been searching all day. I think it's clear that she's not in BlazingRock. Someone would've smelled her scent and taken her back to us." Their father, Orine sighed. Little Akemi had always been a bit too rebellious for him and he'd tried to knock some sense into her, but apparently she had had enough. The whole conversation flipped through his head like the pages of a picture book.

Orine woke up in the early morning sunshine. Akemi was up, talking with Maybrem. Interested, their Flareon father pricked his ears. "But Flareons are cool!" Maybrem whined.
Akemi shook her head. "I wanna be an Espeon! I want to be able to use phychic powers and read minds and improve my skill." The Eevee said with bright emerald eyes. They were shining in the daylight as she said this, her face determined as ever.
"Well too bad." Valcara had said, sitting next to her baby sister with a scowl on her face. "That's not how things work around here. You become something other than a fire type and-" She snickered. "Off wit your head."
"But-" Akemi stammered. "I though the Pokemon in ShadowShine Woods could be other than dragon type as long as they were born there."
"Pokemon in ShadowShine aren't dragon." Mayhem mumbled although her sister didn't hear her.
"True." The older Pokemon said. "But dark types are stupid. They don't care about loyalty as long as they have a strong army."
"So if I became an Espeon here, I'd be killed?" Akemi said with a sad voice. The Eevee looked like she might cry.
"S'right." Aris said, joining in the conversation. "But Flareons are awesome. We can walk in fire and we never get cold!" He said, trying to cheer up his baby sister.
Orine came out of hiding. "You don't wanna become an Espeon either. They're ugly Pokemon that can deceive you and trick you. Like Umbreons." Akemi was about to protest when her father continued. "Umbreons could kill you in one swipe if they wanted too. They'll always deceive you. Just like Espeons."
The small Eevee's face began to redden in anger and embarrassment. "Listen!" She snapped, standing up and growling. "Don't you dare use that tone of-"
"I don't care!" The evolution Pokemon shouted.
"Akemi, get down from there!" Brimstone shouted, with angry eyes.
"No! You never cared about anything I've ever had to say so I want to listen to me." Akemi said, emerald eyes narrowed. The family stopped, shocked by her daughter's fierceness. "I'm done with you all! You've never supported me in anything! You call me weak, when really, if I wanted to I can be stronger than you all. So what if I wanna be an Espeon?"
Orine growled at her. "Akemi, if you don't get down in here in 3 second then you're gonna be grounded."
"You don't realize," She started. "That I don't care. I don't want to be a Flareon, I want to be an Espeon."
    "1."
"I want to show you all that I am stronger than you think I am!" The Eevee continued. "No one cares about my decisions and what I have to say, and I'm done."
    "2."
"Akemi, just shut up!" Volcara hissed at her baby sister. She couldn't believe Akemi was actually doing this, standing up for herself.
"I'm going to OverSet Springs to be an Espeon!"
"3! Akemi you are grounded for a month." Orine growled at Akemi.
Brimstone shook her head. "I always knew you were better than this."
"That's just it." Akemi said. "You keep wanting me to be someone I'm not. I have feelings to! I'm not a puppet!" The Eevee was getting even more emotional.
    "You better-" Her mom started.
"Don't finish!" The small Eevee interrupted as she jumped off the rock. Aris and Maybrem stared at her in horror. How could she do this? Deny their parents? "I'm leaving! I'm going to OverSet Springs!" and then she burst out of their small little densite, charging off into the terrain of BlazingRock. They had searched for her but she had gotten a head start. The Eevee had somehow disguised her scent and weaved throughout the territory. She was gone.

Present

Aris sighed, tears in his eyes. He was a bit more sensitive than everyone else and the fact that Akemi had left made his emotions step over the line.
"There's no way we can find her now." Volcara sighed. She looked defeated but not sad.
Brimstone wagged her creamy tail and nervousness, looking around as if Akemi was going to pop out of thin air. "I think Volcara's right. I don't think we can do anything."
"What?" Aris cried as he looked at his mother in horror. "You're just gonna give up on her? She's part of our family!" His eyes were a bit glassy as tears swelled up in them.
Maybrem's tail drooped in empathy for her brother. She had never wanted her baby sister to leave, even if she was annoying and persistent  It made the Flareon feel useless; their sister was gone and there was nothing she could do to help.
Aris continued, his voice rising with each passing word. "You can't just let her leave! She could get hurt! You don't even care."
"Aris, you know that's not true." Orine said, trying to soothe his son.
"If you want to give up her then fine!" Aris replied, flinching away from his dad. "But I'm not gonna stop looking until I find her!" The Flareon darted into the bushes, leaving the family dumbstruck.
Orine broke the silence with a groan as he lay his head down, a headache coming to him. "Let's just wait until Aris calmes down. He just needs to cool off." The Flareon had not waited for a reply and sped off into the rocky terrain, blinded by anger and sadness. He knew his sister wasn't dying, but the thought of him never being able to see her again made his heart drop. Then he realized that she probably didn't even want to see him. She probably ran away, not even taking a glance back.
Aris stopped and leaned on a rock, panting. He needed to breath a little. He tried to calm himself, tell himself to relax so he could return home when suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached. The Flareon lifted his head to the approachers, a male Absol and a female Umbreon. They were walking side by side, and although the Absol had confidence stirring in every part of him, the female Umbreon didn't look too relaxed. Her eyes were always flickering around in discomfort.
"You can't be here." The Flareon put simply. He didn't want to talk to anyone right now, even if they were trespassing on BlazingRock.
"I'm Lord Nightmare from ShadowShine Forest." The Absol replied, his face hardening as he began to study Aris.
The Flareon gaped at him and then nodded, not taking his eyes off the Absol. He hadn't met any other Pokemon that wasn't fire, especially not a Guardian. "Uhh, then welcome to BlazingRock." He shifted his paws, unsure of what to say. Nightmare eyed his curiosly, obviously waiting for him to do something. Aris replied, "So umm, what brings you here?" He asked, trying to enlighten his face a bit, for the sake of his visitor.
Nightmare hesitated then answered, "I'm looking for an Eevee. She went missing a couple days ago. We found her scent on our land. Do you know whom I speak of?"
At the description of his sister, a tear streamed it's way down Aris's face. "That's Akemi! She's my sister!" Aris's fake happiness melted, replaced by curiosity. "She ran away to OverSet Springs. We'v been looking for her! Did you find her?"
"Actually," The Absol started, "I'm looking for the one who was accompanying her." He replied.
Aris looked at him in confusion. "Whaa? No, s-she didn't go with anyone." He stammered.
The Umbreon made a 'pft' noise and rolled her eyes, thinking that this Flareon must be lying.
"Well then," Nightmare said. "I'm going to ask again and if you don't tell me where he is then you're going to wish you hadn't." He took a step closer, making the cowardly Flareon flinch.
The disaster pokemon unsheathed his claws and gave a smile plastered with smugness. "I don't know who you're talking about!" Aris demanded, taking a step back.
The Absol's gaze seemed to lock onto his, before Nightmare made a low growling noise. "You know perfectly well. Tell me where the golden eyed Umbreon is!!!" Nightmare leapt at Aris, screeching with a battle cry. The female whom he was with, gasped and stepped back.
"Don't hurt him!" She called out, afraid of what the Lord would do to the Flareon. Aris may be strong but he wasn't fast and didn't have lot's of stamina.
Nightmare ignored her comment and used Shadow Claw on the fire-type, the Flareon screeching in pain underneath him. "Stop! You're hurting him!" The female Umbreon growled in horror. She never meant for this to happen. Her business was only with the one with the golden eyes. She had to step in.
Z tackled Nightmare to the ground, growling as she did so. "He's not the one we're after!" She said, pinning the Absol down and surprising him with her strength. "We're only after the Umbreon! Don't hurt the Flareon if he doesn't know anything!" She had begun to loose her confidence in the Absol and was realizing what a mistake she had made when she had decided to come there.
"Stay...out...of...THIS!" Nightmare snarled as he used Shadow Ball on the she-wolf. Z jumped back, surprised. The orb of energy had hit her shoulder and she could feel a trickle of blood run down from the wound. Before she could react, Nightmare had charged at the Flareon, using Quick Attack. A jolt of fear hit Aris as he was unable to dodge, frozen in place by fear. The Flareon was able to act at the last minute  using flamethrower as a shield.
Aris smiled in relief, but when the flames subsided the Absol was gone. "He used Faint Attack; watch out, kid!" Z yelled at him. Aris looked at her in confusion, but it was to late to dodge. The attack sent him off his feet, his back hitting the rocky surface of his homeland. He groaned.
"Why did you help him?!" Nightmare hissed at the Umbreon.
Z lashed her tail out in anger, growling at the disaster Pokemon. "He's not the one we're after!"
"He refuses to give us information!"
"What if he doesn't know any information?" Z countered, gritting her teeth at this uncooperative Pokemon. It didn't faze her once that she was standing up to the 'Lord' of ShadowShine. He could kill her with his guards if he wanted too. He could kill her right now. The Absol hissed at her, before charging a Shadow Ball attack and launching it at the weak Flareon. The fire-type rolled to the side and used his Flame Burst, sending a shot of hot lava towards his foe. The Absol used Dectect, which made his dodge succeed without fail.
Aris stared at the Pokemon in fear. He wasn't that strong. How long would he be able to hold up against this Pokemon? He desperately needed to get out of the situation, but didn't see any escape routes. They'd follow him if he ran. (He wasn't that fast.) His only hope was battling and maybe he could trick this Pokemon and escape. How can I trick the Guardian of ShadowShine? Aris thought to himself. A bead of sweat rolled down his forhead.
"Heat Wave!" Aris abruptly said as his body was producing enough heat to make a light red cloud swoop over the land. Nightmare gritted his teeth, knowing he'd be unable to dodge this one. He could feel burns begin to begin on his body, sending waves of pain through him each time he moved. Aris grinned, knowing he had got the Absol weak. Then he used used Flame Charge, covering his body in flames of scarlet. With the brilliant golden light from the sun behind him, he looked like a fire god.
Nightmare stood his ground while the Flareon charged at him. He smirked at the Flareon's cockiness. Nightmare may be cocky himself, but he knew better than to challenge a Guardian. The Absol growled and then used Foul Play. Since Aris's Speed Attack had just rose, this attack was doing way more damage than it should. Nightmare engulfed himself in a dark aura and launched himself at Aris, using Echoed Voice and Foul Play at the same time. He noticed that the Flareon had begun to slow down as his Echoed Voice kept getting louder. They collided and a snowfall of dust and smoke appeared from the fire type's attack.
Z was yelling at them to stop, but she didn't take part in the battle, as if doing so would be past her limits. She wasn't sure she could trust this Absol now, and felt like her sides were undecided. Aris was on the ground. Even with Flame Charge shielding him with fire he had still taken major damage and it had affected him a lot. He coughed, his body feeling weak. Unlike the dark type, he didn't know healing moves like Moonlight. One last shot, Aris used Flamethrower. He still hadn't gotten up; to weak to do so, but the fire attack was burning successfully hitting straight towards his foe. He smiled faintly as he heard the Absol screech. Maybe he would faint. Maybe Aris would have a chance. Maybe he could find Akemi....
"You, bastard!" Lord Nightmare screeched  He used Leer, which sent Aris cowering back in fear. "Pycho Cut!" His body became surrounded in a pink light of phychic energy, as the attack began to make it's way forward. It soon turned into a razor. The Absol screeched as he sent it flying towards the Eeveelution, hate the only thing glazed in his scarlet eyes. Aris closed his eyes, waiting to faint, waiting for the pain, but it never came.
He was on the ground, tired, but managed to open his eyes. And what he saw surprised him. Z had jumped in front of the attack and was protecting him, looming over him as her golden rings shined with fierceness and beauty. The Flareon was amazed she had taken the hit for him. Z panted, and looked at the Absol with furry. "This is not what I wanted!" she snarled.
"How dare you insult me?! Guardian of ShadowShine Woods!" Aris's vision was starting to blur. The voices became disorted. He saw the Absol Pokemon use Slash, hitting Z to the side. It made the Flareon cringe to see her in pain, even if he was suffering from greater wounds than she was. Suddenly, Lord Nightmare was looming over Aris, smirking, as he delivered a blow to the Flareon's head. (It was not a move) The attack was weak and was meant to knock the Pokemon unconscious.

The Flareon smirked as a thought came to mind, right before he blacked out, Never trust the disaster Pokemon. Especially one named Nightmare.
